Julie Fawcett is not a typical hotel manager from within the hospitality industry. The managing director of Qbic Hotels comes from a digital ecommerce background, having set up and sold a digital business. After she went to work inside a venture-capital company that backed a number of businesses, she worked across all of its management teams adding bandwidth and, in particular, an emphasis on digital operations and digital marketing. Fawcett is no techie. She defines herself as much more about the interface between the machine and the human. Uli Pillau, managing director of hetras, has been involved in the hospitality industry all his life on different sides. The two experts talk about innovation in the hotel industry.
