Ensuring that pillows are hygienic and free from germs is a must for hotel operators. The award-winning Sanipill cleaning system from Italian company Rack System deodorises and sanitises deep into the pillow, using oxidising gas for unrivalled levels of hygiene.
According to research by UK healthcare provider Barts and the London NHS Trust, after two years of use, a third of the total weight of the average pillow is scientifically proven to contain everything from bacteria and dead skin residues to dust mites and their waste.
Faced with this information, it is only natural for guests to wonder how clean and hygienic hotel pillows are.
According to Guglielmo Alovisi, president of Rack System, hygiene and cleanliness are primary elements when it comes to evaluating a hotel. Simply changing a pillowcase is not enough to protect guests against unseemly interlopers; instead, a machine that deodorises and sanitises deep into the pillows is required.
"It's a project that we have been working on for six years now," he explains. "We made numerous investigations, starting with the most important hotels, where we discovered how the traditional changing of the pillowcase ignores the real substance of deep hygiene.
"We also collected thousands of testimonies and carefully evaluated the risks associated with the 'contagion' factor and the spread of allergies, taking into account the work of eminent researchers. In light of this evidence, we decided to study and develop a machine that can solve the problem."
Officially unveiled at RHEX Rimini Horeca Expo in Italy, the Sanipill sanitisation system received the RHEX Innovation Award for the most innovative product and will also be on display at The Hotel Show 2013 in Dubai, UAE, from 28-30 September. Aside from the hotel sector, Sanipill will also be marketed across industries where there is an equally high need for cleanliness and hospitality, such as in nursing homes, on cruise ships and at military facilities.
"As with all of our products, using Sanipill is extremely simple and requires no training," says Alovisi. "it is enough to simply read the user manual."
A mobile system designed to sanitise and deodorise pillows on a daily basis, Sanipill uses special fans to penetrate oxidising gas deep inside the pillow, thereby ensuring hygiene is not only restricted to the surface.
The treatment takes about six minutes, allowing cleaning staff to tidy up the room while the system gets to work. With its elegant lines, specially designed by Rack System, Sanipill is customisable in different colours, and it is also possible to display logos and scripts chosen by the customer.
As a company that specialises in security systems, Rack System has, for many years, dealt in a variety of fire protection and thermal-hydraulic emergency applications. Its best-known global product is Safe Crash, a yellow-coloured safety pane equipped with a pre-breaking system.
Safe Crash is, however, just one of 1,200 innovations in Rack System's extensive product portfolio, which also boasts no fewer than 53 patents. All products marketed by the company are studied, engineered and manufactured at its plant in Basiano, Italy.
