European Hospitality Awards

Lifetime Achievement Award

Gerald Lawless

Gerald Lawless is one of the biggest reasons for the Middle East’s prime position in the hospitality market today. He first spent 23 years with Forte Hotels before joining Jumeirah Group in 1997. The Irish hotel executive grew the group from just two Dubai properties to become an international brand spanning 23 hotels over 12 destinations, as well as 100 restaurants throughout the UAE. His tenure saw the launch two of Dubai’s ground-breaking properties: Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the iconic Burj Al Arab.

In 2016, Lawless stepped aside as president and CEO to take on the role of tourism and leisure adviser, and chairman at Dubai Holding, the parent company of Jumeirah Group. He is also chairman of the World Travel and Tourism Council.
