Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has signed a major development agreement with Indian operator Cygnett Hotels & Resorts to bring two of its brands – La Quinta by Wyndham and Registry Collection Hotels – to South Asia, with more than 60 new properties planned over the next ten years.
Announced on 14 July, the operations partnership spans India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, with the first openings expected in 2026. The move is part of Wyndham’s strategy to deepen its presence in high-growth markets and capitalise on India’s expanding domestic travel sector, which saw spending reach $186bn last year.
The agreement includes an exclusive ten-year plan to roll out more than 50 La Quinta hotels, a brand targeting the upper midscale segment with a focus on value, consistency and modern amenities. These will be a combination of new builds and conversions, joining a global network of over 900 La Quinta properties.
A separate non-exclusive development deal will see Wyndham enter India’s luxury boutique segment with ten Registry Collection Hotels. These will be co-branded with Anamore, Cygnett’s newly launched luxury brand, and will mark Registry’s debut in the Indian market. The first opening is also targeted for 2026.
“This partnership is the next chapter in Wyndham’s Eurasia growth story, with India as a key strategic market that we’ve grown alongside for decades. Cygnett shares our commitment to sustainable, long-term growth, while meeting the rising demand from travellers seeking experiences that blend comfort, authenticity and excellence,” said Dimitris Manikis, President EMEA, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.
“We’re introducing elevated stays across the full spectrum from stylish, quality hotels to distinctive luxury escapes, bringing Wyndham’s world-class brands to even more sought-after destinations across the region.”
Cygnett currently operates 45 hotels across India, with a target of 100 properties and 9,000 keys by 2030.
“Teaming up with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts gives us the scale, global recognition, and brand strength to expand rapidly and deliver outstanding value to our owners and guests,” said Sarbendra Sarkar, founder & managing director, Cygnett Hotels & Resorts.
“We are proud to help grow La Quinta and Registry Collection Hotels, two global brands that perfectly complement our portfolio and align with the rising demand in the region for high-quality hotel and guest experiences. Our extensive regional network and commitment to brand integrity uniquely position us to drive the successful roll-out of these brands across South Asia.”
The deal also enables Cygnett to benefit from Wyndham’s global resources, including its marketing and distribution platforms, and the Wyndham Rewards loyalty programme, which now has over 115 million enrolled members. Wyndham has invested more than $350m in hotel technology since 2018.
Wyndham already operates more than 70 hotels in South Asia under brands including Ramada, Howard Johnson and Wyndham Garden.
