Michelle aims to bring a wealth of experience and ambitious vision to the Westside hideaway
Mayfair’s luxury lifestyle hotel, The Twenty Two is delighted to announce the appointment of Michelle Walder as its new Managing Director, beginning from 3rd July 2023. With her extensive background in the hospitality industry and a passion for design and architecture, Michelle brings a fresh perspective and dynamic leadership to this iconic establishment. Michelle will spearhead the strategic direction of The Twenty Two, focusing on enhancing the guest experience, fostering partnerships, and driving operational excellence.
As well as The Twenty Two in Mayfair, Michelle will also be overseeing the brand’s upcoming New York property, slated to open in 2024. Operated by the same group, a new 77-bedroom hotel, restaurant and private members’ club will be opening in the heart of New York.
Michelle's journey in the hospitality sector began at a remarkably young age, starting in room service and coat check at just 13 years old. Her early exposure to the world of hospitality laid the foundation for an illustrious career. Michelle had the privilege of working with globally renowned hotelier Ian Schrager, both in New York and London, which further ignited her passion for the industry and appreciation for design.
Over the years, Michelle honed her expertise through various roles and projects, leaving an indelible mark on prominent establishments. She spent six years with Andre Balazs Properties, contributing to the success of esteemed properties such as The Mercer, Sunset Beach, and The Standard Hotels. Michelle also lent her talents to Faena, an Argentinian-based hotel group, as well as Schrager's EDITION Hotels in Miami and New York. Her exceptional skills and dedication led her to join Sydell Group in 2011, where she played a pivotal role in the pre-opening and development team of Nomad New York, and later took part in task force and pre-opening assignments at several Sydell properties, including The Ned and NoMad in London.
Michelle holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business & Hospitality Management from École hôtelière de Lausanne in Switzerland, renowned for its excellence in hospitality education. With her profound admiration for visionary endeavors, Michelle's arrival at The Twenty Two promises to push the boundaries of innovation and guest experience.
