The Doyle collection announces the refurbishment of two exclusive suite levels at the Westbury

18 July 2023

Following an investment of 8 Million Euros, the significant refurbishment features 18 Signature Suites including a reimagined Premiere Suite named after Hotel Founder and Hospitality Pioneer PV Doyle

The Westbury redefines luxury for the 21st Century traveller with the introduction of a new suite named after Hotel Founder PV Doyle. An internationally regarded businessman and entrepreneur who opened his first hotel almost 70 years ago, PV helped shape the hospitality industry in Ireland. As Chair of the family-owned group, Bernie Doyle Gallagher has repositioned the business into an international hotel group which currently includes eight hotels in Dublin, London, Cork, Bristol and Washington D.C. Through her leadership, the group continues its commitment to innovation, development and delivering the best guest experience.

A Dublin landmark since opening 40 years ago, The Westbury was designed to bring a distinctive Art Deco, mid-century sophistication to the city. Public spaces throughout the hotel are glamorous and convivial, while every room and suite offers calm, serenity and unparalleled comfort.  The newly launched levels on the fifth and sixth floors include 18 Signature Suites, two of which feature expansive outdoor terraces.

The PV Doyle Suite is set on the 6th floor and has been entirely refurbished to embrace a new level of luxury in keeping with The Westbury’s place as an established member of The Leading Hotels of the World.

Previously The Presidential Suite, the space has long been one of Dublin’s finest accommodations - chosen by Heads of State, global politicos, captains of industry, sporting legends, musical icons and Hollywood’s finest - including the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Marlon Brando, Pavarotti, Pele, David Bowie and Bob Dylan, to name but a few.

The PV Doyle Suite features a spacious master bedroom, living room and dining area alongside a fitness and wellbeing space. The suite can also be fully reconfigured to incorporate an additional three en-suite bedrooms. A dedicated butler and concierge service, as well as massage therapists, facialists and personal trainers are available on request.

Artwork from some of Ireland’s most celebrated artists adorn every wall, thoughtfully curated and complemented with finely crafted furniture and furnishings. The design scheme was created around the suite’s centrepiece, a bespoke rug featuring mid-century motifs. The colour palette adopts a series of warm tones featuring bright green accents with large organic forms flowing through the rug.

Upon entering the suite, guests are welcomed by Sol Y Sombra, a tapestry by internationally renowned 20th Century Irish artist, Louis Le Brocquy. In the sitting room, lofty windows fill the space with natural light, reflecting on the glamorous cut-mirror fronted and brass-lined cocktail bar, which transforms at night into the perfect space for entertaining. The design draws on the High Deco details displayed throughout the hotel, most particularly The Sidecar cocktail bar. Sumptuous seating in the main sitting room surrounds an Angelo Mangiarotti sculptural marble table and, throughout the suite, guests will discover further artworks by Louis Le Brocquy, Nano Reid, Tim Goulding, Patrick Scott, Michael Kane and Le Brocquy’s widow, Anne Madden.

Speaking of the refurbishment, Bernie Doyle Gallagher said: “Every one of our projects starts with the space itself and the people who will stay in it – and each new suite at The Westbury is inspired by the evolving demands of the modern traveller. Light, elegant design touches create a sense of calm – an oasis above the bustling streets of Dublin. While supreme comfort is a given, we wanted to take this to a new level with our most recent refurbishment, then add depth and soul with beautiful pieces of art and furniture. The investment made through this renovation will continue to position The Westbury as a recognised luxury hotel on the international market”.

“The Doyle Collection has been a lifelong supporter of the Arts, collecting and celebrating both Irish and international artists and craftspeople, from the globally renowned to those at the start of their journey. The curated selection of antiques and artwork present themes of travel, exploration and discovery – it is these details which I believe make our guests feel truly at home when they stay in one of The Doyle Collection’s hotels”.
